A Message from Doc

To the Patients of the Stone:

The distractions of my complicated life have kept me from writing anything over the last 18 months or so. I cannot hold back on the current situations related to the coronavirus pandemic.

Anyone who believes that COVID-19 is a hoax or a media conspiracy needs mental health testing. The virus is highly virulent, contagious, and highly infectious. The virus is spreading like wildfire in a one-hundred-year drought. Nothing is stopping it except isolation until the incubation period is over. The top health official in Italy has died from it. The patients of the Stone need to recognize that there will be one of their family members, friends, neighbors, coworkers, or healthcare workers who will die as a result of the infection. The virus does not discriminate between rich and poor, Democrat or Republican, kind or cruel, Evangelical or Catholic, Jew or gentile, black or white, doctor or lawyer, man or woman, celebrities or heroes, youth or elderly, judges or the accused, virus believers or deniers, or members of Congress.  If you are afraid, good. You should be. If you are a virus tough-guy, years-from-now, we may see you wading in the River Jordan during our journey to the afterlife.

What can we do about our health? Be smart. The most important behavior to incorporate is social distancing. No more hugs or handshakes. Those days are over. Forgive me if I don’t hug you or shake your hand. It is not personal; it is protection for you. Wear disposable gloves when possible. Wash your hands with sanitizers or antibacterial soap and water. Do not be in a hurry because haste makes waste.

When test kits are available, get tested as soon as possible. I have informed my staff that we will check everyone who enters the door. I am disturbed over the lack of availability of testing kits for physicians in a concerted effort to keep the number of confirmed cases limited in our public health statistics. The voters this fall need to replace the deniers in the White House, as well as their immoral sycophants. Thousands might die as a result of our lack of attention and concern. If our citizens unite, we can help reduce the slope of the curve of the population affected. Do not attend any meeting or gathering that has greater than fifteen people. Healthcare facilities are cesspools, even ours. We are scrubbing with bleach, providing patients with gloves, and keeping patients separate from each other.

I will write an extensive blog this weekend about the issues surrounding this healthcare crisis. One last thing. For those who have wanted a President to represent their single-issue on abortion, Supreme Court Justices, gun violence, or tax reform. Forgive me, for I too have joined the single-issue voter group. I am now a single-issue voter for health-related concerns. President Trump has failed miserably and continues to do so. Please do not ask me about the current President who sits in the oval office. I will probably say things on the spur of the moment that I will regret for the rest of my life.

I hope everyone has learned from this. And for you deniers, I pray that your COVID-19 experience is less than harsh, for we do not judge anyone for extreme ignorance in this country. We just pray for them, as well as everyone else.
