Vision for the Future
If
you took time to visualize a place for healing, what would
constitute the ideal wellness center? Would it include state of
the art laboratory services, body imaging for function and
anatomical abnormality, individualized therapies including
allopathic, homeopathic and naturopathic medicines, vitamins,
minerals, acupuncture and physical therapies? Most definitely it
would. Add one physician prescribing therapy using consultants
as “consultants”, not definitive clinical care providers, and
you have The Stone Institute.
The Stone Institute was founded on the premise of the “whole.”
Through the years, the “whole” has taken on new meaning. Mind,
body, spirit is a version of the whole, but the dissection of
the three creates artificial boundaries. Mind, body and spirit
are virtually inseparable due to the life long dense intimate
integrations. A therapeutic approach to disease by carving out
one from the three is fraught with many errors related to the
manifestations of disease and the interpretations of their
clinical relevance to therapy.
Dr. Merigian defines the “whole” as a biological holon. Each
minute part of the human body is in-and-of-itself a whole, but
it also serves as a part of another more multifaceted whole.
Each holon has a mind, body and spirit component. The
amalgamated interactions of holons produce the human condition,
either healthy or ill.
The second most important aspect of the new “whole” model is
that all cellular, neurologic, gastrointestinal, cardiovascular,
pulmonary, endocrinologic and immunologic functions have only
one major component in common: blood. Blood and blood components
are not only holons, but blood also connects all other human
holons in some fashion. Minute by minute, 55-60% of blood flow
is directed from the heart to the gastrointestinal tract. Blood
from the GI tract is routed to the liver for processing and
cleansing before it returns to the cardiovascular system. If the
liver function is compromised in any way, the short and long
term effects of polluted blood creates disease. The overwhelming
majority of the pollution from the GI tract must be cleansed by
the liver. If not, the body as a whole becomes extremely
susceptible to disease. It is postulated that polluted blood
compromises the immune system, which leads to chronic
infections, auto immune phenomenon and cancers. Hormone
distortions lead to emotional imbalances and metabolic
disturbances. Perfusion changes in the kidney, liver and brain
leads to acute and chronic hypertension. Persistent inflammation
leads to fatigue and heart disease. Examining holonsitic
structures and live whole blood allows health care providers to
contemplate disease in a new light. Emphasis on study of the
human body as a complex biological ecosystem creates a unified
functional approach to disease.
The unified function model demands a shift in the therapeutic
paradigm. Medicinal holonism is at the opposite end of the
spectrum from the reductionist model of specialization and sub
specialization. Even the most remote, most minuet cell
communicates with the most large, most central portion of the
human condition.
Patients at The Stone Institute learn about a new medical model
integrating all aspects of the immune system, endocrine glands,
blood and blood components, nervous system activity and
nutrition.
Each illness is actually only one of a kind. Infirmity
challenges the body and its functions differently from patient
to patient. If you visualize a place for healing, what would
constitute a solution to your personal disturbance? Each unique
illness requires a distinctive therapeutic adventure. Come find
it at The Stone Institute.
